Market Saturation
Today, social media channels are crowded places where it can sometimes be difficult to stand out. The process of building up followers can be a longer one as result, and building up a reputation online is something that requires attention to quality and user experience. To stsnd out, one can educate, enlighten and entertain those in one's circle of influence. Make it about the customer. A brand can do well when it creates memorable experiences online -- that are shareable. We all have things in common, like cooking and use of household products (at least some of us do). The story you tell may not be so unique, even amongst your competitors.
Most of the time social media does not influence purchases. It is PEOPLE that have a influence over sales and this is usually through communication; actual influence is yielded across personal relationships. People influence people, not social media; people tend to trust their friends and family, not brands and their advertising. Yet, why are so many companies trying to reach out with just technology, like impersonal auto-responders? Have you shaken someone's hand today? Social media alone is not the answer. To market a product, you often need to gather around where people are and meet them face to face. Avoid use of technology to sell your products and/or services at times. :) Marketing should not be done just online.
When you use social media, keep in mind that results may not always be forthcoming. In many ways, it is better to build up your services/products gradually by word of mouth. Take for example, the marketing efforts done by Instant Pot. Instant Pot has been around since 2010 and is a 3rd generation programmable pressure cooker. It speeds up cooking 2~10 times and uses up to 70% less energy. Through word-of-mouth, the number of "advocates" has grown up slowly. Who is in YOUR small circle at the moment? And how can you use of social media to have them share your story? The value of social media is in how it connects us all.
