The Growth of Social Media

Since 2004, the growth of social media has been near exponential. Back in those days, Facebook, the top social network, only had about 1 million users -- but by 2011, the network had grown so large, its population was being compared to that of a country. Today, the problem is getting noticed in an ocean of information.

Think of social media as an extension of your website where people mingle. Just don't expect an immediate reponse for many people just flip through screen after screen of content. Recongize w.hat is of interest to your target audience. Keywords are part of the picture, but should not be your main focus. Ensuring your theme shines through is far important. Think of your site as a collection of songs. There are certain words and/or phrases that your visitors will remember. But the words are not the only important part of your marketing. Sometimes the imagery can just be as powerful. The words will follow.

Those who use social media can switch quickly from one source of information to another. And when they do, they will sometimes switch devices. Having your content work well on desktops, tablets and smartphones will make all the difference to connecting with people as sometimes you have to continue pulling them through your sales funnel as they go from one device to another. This does not mean that you have to have more than one site. It simply means that your site must work well on multiple devices. Having a custom site could well add to the price, but in the long run, it is well worth it.
