Key Signatures

Today, composers and musicians make use of major and minor key signatures. If they did not, too many flats and sharps would have to be used. The key signature at the beginning of a composition applies to the entire song, unless it is replaced by another key signature or canceled by the same number of naturals. For each key signature, there is a major and minor scale upon which THAT KEY'S chords are built. There are 12 key signatures and the most common ones are C, F and G. On a Circle of 5ths, these are located together.
