A term used in America to refer to part-writing. Each voice or note is part of a larger whole. There are often transitions.
In some circumstances, voicings associated with chords (C-E-G vs G-E-C vs G-C-E etc.) are voiced vertically in a manner so that EACH chord transition has as few changes as possible. "Voicing" term that refers to the structure of a chord, or the way in which a chord is constructed.
The component of counterpoint that recognizes each voice as an individual, horizontal melody rather than as a part of the resultant, vertical chords.
