Dissonance
Two or more notes sounded together which are discordant, and in the prevailing harmonic system, require resolution to a consonance.
Note
A notational symbol used to represent the duration of a sound, and when placed on a music staff, also indicate the pitch of the sound.
Discord
A dissonant or disharmonious combination of sounds. In strict harmony, it must be resolved or followed by a concordant sound.
Consonance
An accord of sounds sweet and pleasing to the ear as opposed to dissonance. Perfect consonances are the perfect fourth, fifth, and octave. Imperfect consonances are the major and minor thirds and sixths.
